GTA 6 Preload: Date, Size, and How Long the Download Will Take

When does the GTA 6 preload start?

November 12, 2026, one week before launch. Confirmed. Rockstar’s pre-order announcement of June 24, 2026 set the date.

Who can preload?

Everyone who pre-orders, digital or boxed.

• Digital pre-orders on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S can begin preloading on November 12.
• Boxed copies contain a download code, not a disc. Confirmed in the same June 24 announcement: the physical version arrives in stores starting November 12 so those buyers can redeem the code and preload too. There is no disc install path.

How big is the download?

Not announced. Rockstar has not published an install size on any storefront. Community estimates run from 150 to 250 GB, and a viral 677 GB screenshot is not credible. The practical move: clear at least 200 GB now and leave headroom, since releases at this scale usually ship a day one patch on top.

How long will the download take?

These are theoretical minimums at full line speed. Real downloads run slower, so add 20 to 30 percent, and launch week congestion is real. That is exactly why the seven day head start matters.

Does preload mean early access?

No. The files sit locked on your console until November 19. Nothing boots, no story head start, no map. No announced edition includes an early access period.

How to get ready now

1. Check the free space in your console storage settings. If you have less than 200 GB free, decide now what to archive.
2. Use a wired connection if you can. Wi-Fi is the usual bottleneck.
3. Turn on automatic downloads and rest mode downloading so the preload starts without you.
4. Pre-order before November 12 if you want the head start. Pre-orders placed before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+.
